Shinjiro Koizumi and His Strange Words
Why “Koizumi-style sentences” became memes, and why many say he should not lead Japan
石破（いしば）総理（そうり）がやめると発表（はっぴょう）したあと、
次（つぎ）の総裁選（そうさいせん）は、高市早苗（たかいちさなえ）さんと小泉進次郎（こいずみしんじろう）さんの戦（たたか）いになると言（い）う人（ひと）が多（おお）くいました。
でも、小泉進次郎（こいずみしんじろう）さんは、まだ立候補（りっこうほ）していません。
ここでは、小泉進次郎（こいずみしんじろう）さんを少（すこ）し紹介（しょうかい）します。

日本（にほん）のせいじか 小泉進次郎（こいずみしんじろう） さんは、「小泉（こいずみ）こうぶん」とよばれる、ふしぎなはなし方（かた）で有名（ゆうめい）になりました。
Shinjiro Koizumi is a Japanese politician.
He became famous for a strange way of speaking called “Koizumi-style sentences.”
小泉（こいずみ）こうぶんとは？
What are Koizumi-style sentences?
「小泉（こいずみ）こうぶん」とは、あたりまえのことを、あたりまえのままいう文（ぶん）です。
Koizumi-style sentences say something obvious in a very obvious way.
そのため、なにをいいたいのか、よくわからないことがおおいです。
Because of this, many times people cannot understand what he really wants to say.
小泉（こいずみ）こうぶんの例（れい）
Examples of Koizumi-style sentences
「環境問題（かんきょうもんだい）は、実（じつ）は環境（かんきょう）の問題（もんだい）なんです」
“Environmental problems are, in fact, problems of the environment.”
「気候変動（きこうへんどう）の取（と）り組（く）みはセクシーであるべき」
“Our efforts against climate change should be sexy.”
「将来（しょうらい）のことを考（かんが）えると、将来のことを考えなければならない」
“When we think about the future, we must think about the future.”
「原発（げんぱつ）ゼロをめざすが、原発ゼロをめざすと言（い）ったことはない」
“I aim for zero nuclear power, but I have never said I aim for zero nuclear power.”
このような文（ぶん）は、ネットでミームになり、多（おお）くの人（ひと）がわらったり、あきれたりしています。
These kinds of sentences became memes on the internet. Many people laugh at them or feel amazed in a bad way.
小泉（こいずみ）さんのせいさくと評価（ひょうか）
Koizumi’s policies and reputation
小泉（こいずみ）さんは、これまでに環境大臣（かんきょうだいじん）、農林水産大臣（のうりんすいさんだいじん）などをつとめました。
Koizumi has served as Minister of the Environment and Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
しかし、彼（かれ）のせいさくの評価（ひょうか）はあまりよくありません。
However, his policies are not rated very well.
今回（こんかい）の自民党総裁選（じみんとうそうさいせん）では、「いい人（ひと）がいない」と言（い）われていますが、ネット上（じょう）ではとくに 「小泉（こいずみ）だけはぜったいにダメだ」 という声（こえ）が多（おお）く見（み）られます。
In this Liberal Democratic Party leadership election, people say, “There is no good candidate.” But on the internet, many voices especially say, “Anyone is fine, but not Koizumi.”
しかし、小泉（こいずみ）をおす人（ひと）たちもいる
But some people still support Koizumi
それでも、小泉（こいずみ）さんをおす有力（ゆうりょく）なせいじかたちがいます。
Still, there are powerful politicians who support Koizumi.
そのため、彼（かれ）が強（つよ）い立候補者（りっこうほしゃ）になる可能性（かのうせい）もあります。
Because of that, he might still become a strong candidate.
父親（ちちおや）と家族（かぞく）
His father and family
小泉（こいずみ）さんの父親（ちちおや）は、元首相（もとしゅしょう）の 小泉純一郎（こいずみじゅんいちろう） さんです。
Koizumi’s father is Junichiro Koizumi, who was once Prime Minister of Japan.
父親（ちちおや）のときのせいさくのせいで、今（いま）の日本（にほん）が「落（お）ちぶれた」と考（かんが）える人（ひと）も少（すく）なくありません。
Some people think Japan declined because of the policies of his father’s time.
小泉進次郎（こいずみしんじろう）さんは、ルックスがよいとも言（い）われます。
People also say that Shinjiro Koizumi looks good.
また、兄（あに）は有名（ゆうめい）な俳優（はいゆう）の 小泉孝太郎（こいずみこうたろう） さんです。
His older brother is Kotaro Koizumi, a famous actor.
小泉進次郎（こいずみしんじろう）さんの妻（つま）は、人気（にんき）のアナウンサーの滝川（たきがわ）クリステルさんです。彼女（かのじょ）は、東京（とうきょう）でオリンピックを開（ひら）くために、世界（せかい）に向（む）けてプレゼンテーションをした人（ひと）です。
Shinjiro Koizumi’s wife is Christel Takigawa, a popular TV announcer. She gave a presentation to the world to help bring the Olympics to Tokyo.
このように、小泉進次郎（こいずみしんじろう）さんは「おもしろいことばの人（ひと）」としてネットで話題（わだい）になりながらも、政治家（せいじか）としての評価（ひょうか）はきびしいものになっています。
In this way, Shinjiro Koizumi is talked about on the internet as “a man with funny words.” But as a politician, his reputation is very strict and not so good.
