日本国憲法（にほんこくけんぽう）を やさしい日本語（にほんご）と 英語（えいご）で 説明（せつめい）します
憲法（けんぽう）は、国（くに）のいちばん大事（だいじ）な法律（ほうりつ）です。すべての法律（ほうりつ）は、この憲法（けんぽう）にしたがわなければなりません。
The constitution is the most important law in a country.
All other laws must follow it.
日本国憲法（にほんこくけんぽう）には、いくつか大切（たいせつ）な考（かんが）えが書（か）かれています。
Japan's constitution has some very important ideas.
まず、日本（にほん）では、国民（こくみん）が国（くに）の主人（しゅじん）です。えらばれた人（ひと）たちが、国民（こくみん）のために政治（せいじ）をします。
First, the people have power in Japan.
The leaders are chosen by the people and must work for them.
つぎに、人（ひと）の権利（けんり）をとても大切（たいせつ）にしています。すべての人が、自由（じゆう）に、にんげんらしく生（い）きることができるようにと考（かんが）えています。
Next, people’s rights are protected.
Everyone should live freely and with dignity as a human being.
そして、日本（にほん）は戦争（せんそう）をしないと決（き）めています。第九条（だいきゅうじょう）には、戦争（せんそう）をしないこと、軍隊（ぐんたい）や戦力（せんりょく）を持（も）たないことが書（か）かれています。
Also, Japan has decided not to go to war.
Article 9 says that Japan will not fight wars.
It also says that Japan will not have a military or weapons of war.
この憲法（けんぽう）は、今（いま）まで一度（いちど）も改正（かいせい）されたことがありません。
This constitution has never been changed since it was made.
日本国憲法（にほんこくけんぽう）は、戦争（せんそう）のあと、アメリカが日本（にほん）を占領（せんりょう）していたときにつくられました。だから、「日本人（にほんじん）が自分（じぶん）で作（つく）った憲法（けんぽう）ではない」と言（い）う人もいます。
The Constitution of Japan was made after World War II.
At that time, the United States was in control of Japan.
So, some people say that this constitution was not made by the Japanese themselves.
