From now on, I’ll be writing on a new publication called Japan Hub Notes. It will be entirely in English and not focused on learning Japanese. Instead, I’ll be sharing whatever I feel like writing about Japan — in my own voice, and from my own perspective as someone who has lived there.

On Japan Hub Notes, you’ll find posts about Japanese society, politics, social issues, pop culture, trending news, rumors, urban legends, and more. Some posts may sound critical or touch on negative aspects of Japan — but please don’t take that the wrong way. Every country has its share of issues. Japan is a beautiful and amazing place, and like any country, it also has problems that deserve to be talked about.

There are many incredible non-Japanese writers who write about Japan from fresh and thoughtful perspectives. As a Japanese person, I’d like to join that conversation. I’m not an expert — just someone who wants to share what I know, see, and think.

"Elfen Lied" is a Japanese anime that was first broadcast in 2004. It is based on a manga and tells a story about sadness, love, and forgiveness. In the United States and Germany, dubbed versions (where the characters speak in the local language) were also created. Many fans still enjoy the series today.

The opening song of this anime is called “Lilium.” It is sung in Latin, with a quiet and beautiful melody. “Lilium” is the Latin word for “lily,” a flower. In Christianity, lilies are a symbol of purity and a pure heart.

A video featuring English subtitles

The lyrics of this song include feelings such as believing in God, wanting to live without fear, accepting mistakes, and wanting to try again, living with a pure heart, and wishing to live surrounded by love. Anyone from any religion can sing it because it is not tied to one specific belief.

Choirs and churches in different countries have sung this song.

For example, a university choir in Valparaíso, Chile performed it during a cultural event.

In Ukraine, a boys’ choir called Dzvinochok performed it at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Kyiv.

A Japanese choir performed “Lilium” at a benefit concert held at Union Church in California.

“Lilium” is more than just an anime song.
Although the lyrics are in Latin and not widely understood, the melody has resonated with many people around the world for its beauty and solemn atmosphere.

In Japan, anime songs are rarely performed in public.
Yet “Lilium,” originally written for an anime, is now sung in churches and concerts around the world as a beautiful, solemn piece.

Music transcends language and culture—it connects us all.

This video includes Japanese lyrics, but they’re poetic and hard to understand.

アニメの歌『Lilium（リリウム）』が世界の教会で歌われています

『エルフェンリート』は、2004年に放送された日本のアニメです。原作はマンガで、人のかなしい思いや、愛とゆるしについて描かれています。アメリカやドイツでは、ふきかえ版（その国の言葉で話すバージョン）も作られていて、今でも多くのファンがいます。

このアニメのオープニングの曲は、『Lilium（リリウム）』といいます。ラテン語で歌われていて、とてもきれいでしずかなメロディーです。「リリウム」はラテン語で「百合（ゆり）」という花の名前です。百合は、キリスト教で「清らかな心」のシンボルとされています。

この曲の歌詞には、神を信じる気持ち、こわがらずに生きたい思い、まちがいをみとめてやり直したいという気持ち、清らかな心で生きたいこと、愛につつまれて生きたいというねがいがこめられています。どの宗教の人でも歌うことができ、特定の教えにかたよっていません。

この曲は、いろいろな国の合唱団や教会で歌われています。

たとえば、チリのバルパライソにある大学の合唱団が、文化の日のイベントで歌いました。ウクライナの少年合唱団「Dzvinochok（ズヴィノーチョク）」が、キーウ（キエフ）のチャイコフスキー・ホールでこの曲を演奏しました。。日本の合唱団が、カリフォルニア州のユニオン・チャーチで開かれたチャリティーコンサートで「Lilium」を演奏しました。

「Lilium」は、ただのアニメの主題歌ではありません。
この歌の歌詞はラテン語で書かれていて、意味がわからない人も多いです。
それでも、この歌のメロディーの美しさや、しずかな雰囲気は、世界の多くの人の心に残っています。

日本では、アニメの主題歌が公共の場で歌われることはめったにありません。しかし「Lilium」は、もともとはアニメのために作られた曲でありながら、いまでは世界中の教会やコンサートで、美しく荘厳な楽曲として歌われています。

音楽は言葉や文化を超え、人と人とをつなげてくれる力があります。

After posting a video from the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, Bappa Shota has stopped updating his YouTube and social media accounts.

Who is Bappa Shota?

Bappa Shota is a Japanese traveler.

He travels to many different countries and shares videos on YouTube and social media.

He is also known for “van life,” where he lives and travels in his van.

His Last Video

On June 28, 2025, Bappa Shota posted a video titled “What I Saw in China’s Uyghur Region and the Reality of the Detention Camps.”

In the video, he visited the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in western China.

He showed how people there live and what the towns look like.

This area is well known because of serious issues between the Chinese government and the Uyghur people.

No Updates Since That Video

After posting the video, Bappa Shota stopped updating his YouTube and other social media accounts.

His fans are worried and wonder if something bad happened.

Some people said that there was one short update on Instagram Stories, but no one knows if it was really posted by him.

What Fans Are Saying

Some fans says:

"He usually holds the camera himself, but this video looks like it was taken using a tripod.”

"He said he is in the Southern Hemisphere, but the GPS location still shows China.

“His clothes and background look different than usual.”

Because of this, some people think something may have happened to him in China.

But there is no clear proof. These are just guesses and rumors.

No Official Statement

There is no official message from Bappa Shota, his family, his friends, or any company he may work with.

There is also no comment from the Japanese government or embassy.

So, for now, stories like “he disappeared,” “he is still in China,” or “he can’t leave” are just rumors.

Summary

Bappa Shota posted a video from the Uyghur region on June 28, 2025.

After that, there have been no updates on YouTube or social media.

His fans are very worried about him.

Some people say the way he filmed or the GPS information looks strange.

2025年6月28日、バッパー翔太さんは、「中国ウイグル自治区と強制収容所の実態がとんでもなかった」というタイトルの動画をYouTubeで出しました。

この動画では、中国の西にある「新疆ウイグル自治区」を旅して、ウイグルの人たちの生活や町のようすを紹介しています。

この地域は、中国とウイグル族との問題がある場所として、世界でもよく知られています。

動画のあと、更新が止まりました

この動画を出したあと、バッパー翔太さんのYouTubeやSNSの更新が止まりました。

ファンの人たちは、「何か問題があったのではないか」と心配しています。

Instagramのストーリーが一度だけ出たという人もいますが、それが本当に本人のものかどうかは分かりません。

ファンが気にしていること

ファンの中には、次のような声があります。

It is said that 2.3TB of data from Japan’s Public Security Intelligence Agency (PSIA) was leaked, but is that true?

Japan has several spy organizations. This time, the story is about the PSIA.

By the way, the PSIA is a different organization from the Public Security Police and the National Public Safety Commission. The PSIA is part of the Ministry of Justice and carries out spy activities. The Public Security Police is part of the National Police Agency and not only does spy work but also has the power to arrest people. The National Public Safety Commission belongs to the Cabinet Office and supervises the National Police Agency.

In Japanese, all three have “public security” in their names, but they are different organizations.

A hacker group called Kirov Elite Group wrote on the dark web that they had hacked a total of 2.3TB of data from the PSIA, including information on staff, top officials, board members, and vehicles. There was 2.3TB of data there, and anyone could download it for free.

This information was also spread on Chinese security websites, blogs, and social media. That was on September 7, 2025.

In conclusion, the data was fake.

In Japan, many people work to protect stray cats. This is called "rescue cat activities."

There are two main ways. One is called TNR. It means catching a stray cat, doing surgery so it cannot have babies, and then returning it to the same place. The other is called TNTA. It means catching a stray cat, doing surgery, and then giving it to a new family.

The YouTube channel MOFUMOFU TV is run by a family of three: PON (the husband), Aya (the wife), and their daughter Miyu. They do not only ask for donations. They also use money from social media and live-stream gifts to help cats. They call this idea "Nyan-Tame", which mixes entertainment and rescue work.

One reason this channel is popular is because you can see both the cute cats and the fun dancing of the mother and daughter. Videos of "dancing with cats" are very unique, and they make people around the world smile.

In Japan, rescue groups often get help not only with money but also with goods. They use Amazon "wish lists," so people can buy food, litter, or other things and send them directly to the shelter. This way, cats get exactly what they need.

MOFUMOFU TV runs two shelters, "Mofumofu House" and "Mofumofu Kingdom." They also take care of special cats, like cats that are pregnant, cats that are sick, or cats that are shy with people. Their goal is simple: every cat should have a chance to live as a house cat.

If you want to learn about cat rescue, or just enjoy fun videos of dancing with cats, this channel is a great choice.

日本では、野良猫を守るための「保護猫活動」が広がっています。この活動には大きく分けて二つの方法があります。

日本（にほん）の首相（しゅしょう）をどのように決（き）めるかについて、前（まえ）にふたつの記事（きじ）を書（か）きました。
I wrote two posts before about how Japan chooses its Prime Minister.

ひとつは「自民党（じみんとう）のリーダーを決（き）める選挙（せんきょ）」、もうひとつは「首相（しゅしょう）を決（き）める国会（こっかい）の選挙（せんきょ）」です。
One was about the election to choose the LDP leader, and the other was about the Diet election to choose the Prime Minister.

今回（こんかい）は、そのふたつをまとめて、わかりやすく書（か）き直（なお）しました。
This time, I put those two together and rewrote them to make it easier to understand.

石破（いしば）首相（しゅしょう）
Prime Minister Ishiba

2025年（ねん）9月（がつ）7日（なのか）、石破（いしば）首相（しゅしょう）は「やめます」と言（い）いました。
On September 7, 2025, Prime Minister Ishiba said, “I will quit.”

首相（しゅしょう）は日本（にほん）の政治（せいじ）のリーダーです。
The Prime Minister is the leader of Japan’s politics.

石破（いしば）さんは自民党（じみんとう）のリーダーでもあります。
Mr. Ishiba is also the leader of the LDP.

だから、次（つぎ）の自民党（じみんとう）のリーダーと、日本（にほん）の首相（しゅしょう）を決（き）める必要（ひつよう）があります。
So, the next LDP leader and the next Prime Minister of Japan must be decided.

スケジュール
Schedule

今（いま）（2025年（ねん）9月（がつ））: 石破（いしば）さんは次（つぎ）の人（ひと）が決（き）まるまで、首相（しゅしょう）と自民党（じみんとう）のリーダーを続（つづ）けます。
Now (September 2025): Mr. Ishiba will stay as Prime Minister and LDP leader until the next person is chosen.

10月（がつ）4日（よっか）: 自民党（じみんとう）のリーダーを決（き）める選挙（せんきょ）があります。
October 4: There will be an election to decide the LDP leader.

10月（がつ）中旬（ちゅうじゅん）ごろ: 国会（こっかい）で、新（あたら）しい首相（しゅしょう）を決（き）めます。
Around mid-October: In the Diet , they will choose the new Prime Minister.

日本（にほん）では、自民党（じみんとう）が一番（いちばん）大（おお）きな政党（せいとう）なので、ふつうは自民党（じみんとう）のリーダーが首相（しゅしょう）になります。
In Japan, the LDP is the biggest party, so usually the LDP leader becomes Prime Minister.

そのあと、天皇（てんのう）が新（あたら）しい首相（しゅしょう）を「正式（せいしき）に」決（き）めます。これはかたちだけの行事（ぎょうじ）です。
After that, the Emperor formally appoints the new Prime Minister. This is just a ceremony.

首相（しゅしょう）を決（き）めるルール
The Rules for Choosing the Prime Minister

首相（しゅしょう）になる人（ひと）は、衆議院（しゅうぎいん）と参議院（さんぎいん）の両方（りょうほう）で、半分（はんぶん）以上（いじょう）の人（ひと）に選（えら）ばれなければいけません。
The person to be Prime Minister must get more than half the votes in both the House of Representatives and the House of Councillors.

もしふたつの院（いん）でちがう人（ひと）が選（えら）ばれたら、衆議院（しゅうぎいん）で選（えら）ばれた人（ひと）が首相（しゅしょう）になります。
If the two houses choose different people, the one chosen by the House of Representatives becomes Prime Minister.

今（いま）、自民党（じみんとう）は半分（はんぶん）より少（すく）ない議席（ぎせき）しかもっていません。
Right now, the LDP has less than half the seats.

だから、だれも半分（はんぶん）以上（いじょう）の票（ひょう）を取（と）れないかもしれません。
So, maybe no one will get more than half the votes.

そのときは、1番（いちばん）と2番（にばん）の人（ひと）でもう1回（いっかい）選挙（せんきょ）をします。
At that time, the top two people will have another election.

このときも、両方（りょうほう）の院（いん）で半分（はんぶん）以上（いじょう）を取（と）らなければなりません。
In that vote too, they must get more than half in both houses.

もしちがう結果（けっか）になったら、衆議院（しゅうぎいん）の結果（けっか）が優先（ゆうせん）されます。
If the results are different, the House of Representatives’ result is used.

首相（しゅしょう）が決（き）まったあと
After the Prime Minister is Decided

新（あたら）しい首相（しゅしょう）が決（き）まっても、すぐには衆議院（しゅうぎいん）を解散（かいさん）しないと言（い）われています。
Even after the new Prime Minister is chosen, the House of Representatives will not be dissolved soon.

石破（いしば）内閣（ないかく）はやめて、新（あたら）しい内閣（ないかく）ができあがります。
The Ishiba Cabinet will quit, and a new Cabinet will be formed.

内閣（ないかく）とは、首相（しゅしょう）と大臣（だいじん）たちのチームで、日本（にほん）の政治（せいじ）を動（うご）かします。
The Cabinet is a team of the Prime Minister and ministers, and it runs Japan’s politics.

Sometimes, things are decided when the leaders of countries talk directly.

He became famous for a strange way of speaking called “Koizumi-style sentences.”

小泉（こいずみ）こうぶんとは？

What are Koizumi-style sentences?

「小泉（こいずみ）こうぶん」とは、あたりまえのことを、あたりまえのままいう文（ぶん）です。
Koizumi-style sentences say something obvious in a very obvious way.

そのため、なにをいいたいのか、よくわからないことがおおいです。
Because of this, many times people cannot understand what he really wants to say.

小泉（こいずみ）こうぶんの例（れい）

Examples of Koizumi-style sentences

「環境問題（かんきょうもんだい）は、実（じつ）は環境（かんきょう）の問題（もんだい）なんです」
“Environmental problems are, in fact, problems of the environment.”

「気候変動（きこうへんどう）の取（と）り組（く）みはセクシーであるべき」
“Our efforts against climate change should be sexy.”

「将来（しょうらい）のことを考（かんが）えると、将来のことを考えなければならない」
“When we think about the future, we must think about the future.”

「原発（げんぱつ）ゼロをめざすが、原発ゼロをめざすと言（い）ったことはない」
“I aim for zero nuclear power, but I have never said I aim for zero nuclear power.”

このような文（ぶん）は、ネットでミームになり、多（おお）くの人（ひと）がわらったり、あきれたりしています。

小泉（こいずみ）さんは、これまでに環境大臣（かんきょうだいじん）、農林水産大臣（のうりんすいさんだいじん）などをつとめました。
Koizumi has served as Minister of the Environment and Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

しかし、彼（かれ）のせいさくの評価（ひょうか）はあまりよくありません。
However, his policies are not rated very well.

今回（こんかい）の自民党総裁選（じみんとうそうさいせん）では、「いい人（ひと）がいない」と言（い）われていますが、ネット上（じょう）ではとくに 「小泉（こいずみ）だけはぜったいにダメだ」 という声（こえ）が多（おお）く見（み）られます。
In this Liberal Democratic Party leadership election, people say, “There is no good candidate.” But on the internet, many voices especially say, “Anyone is fine, but not Koizumi.”

But some people still support Koizumi

それでも、小泉（こいずみ）さんをおす有力（ゆうりょく）なせいじかたちがいます。
Still, there are powerful politicians who support Koizumi.

そのため、彼（かれ）が強（つよ）い立候補者（りっこうほしゃ）になる可能性（かのうせい）もあります。
Because of that, he might still become a strong candidate.

父親（ちちおや）と家族（かぞく）

His father and family

小泉（こいずみ）さんの父親（ちちおや）は、元首相（もとしゅしょう）の 小泉純一郎（こいずみじゅんいちろう） さんです。
Koizumi’s father is Junichiro Koizumi, who was once Prime Minister of Japan.

父親（ちちおや）のときのせいさくのせいで、今（いま）の日本（にほん）が「落（お）ちぶれた」と考（かんが）える人（ひと）も少（すく）なくありません。
Some people think Japan declined because of the policies of his father’s time.

Shinjiro Koizumi’s wife is Christel Takigawa, a popular TV announcer. She gave a presentation to the world to help bring the Olympics to Tokyo.

このように、小泉進次郎（こいずみしんじろう）さんは「おもしろいことばの人（ひと）」としてネットで話題（わだい）になりながらも、政治家（せいじか）としての評価（ひょうか）はきびしいものになっています。
In this way, Shinjiro Koizumi is talked about on the internet as “a man with funny words.” But as a politician, his reputation is very strict and not so good.

日本国憲法（にほんこくけんぽう）では、首相（しゅしょう）は国会（こっかい）が決（き）めます。
国会（こっかい）には

衆議院（しゅうぎいん）465人（2025年現在（げんざい））

参議院（さんぎいん）248人（2025年現在（げんざい））
がいます。

法律（ほうりつ）では、衆議院（しゅうぎいん）と参議院（さんぎいん）が 別々（べつべつ）に投票（とうひょう）して首相（しゅしょう）を決（き）めます。
つまり、自民党（じみんとう）以外（いがい）の国会議員（こっかいぎいん）も投票（とうひょう）できます。

In the Japanese Constitution, the Prime Minister is chosen by the National Diet.
The Diet has:

• 465 members in the House of Representatives (as of 2025)

• 248 members in the House of Councillors (as of 2025)
  Both houses vote separately to choose the Prime Minister.
  This means not only the LDP, but all members of the Diet can vote.

1. 基本（きほん）のプロフィール（Who is she?）

高市早苗（たかいちさなえ）さんは、1961年3月7日生（う）まれの63歳（さい）です。
Sanae Takaichi was born on March 7, 1961. She is 63 years old.

奈良県（ならけん）出身（しゅっしん）で、今（いま）は衆議院議員（しゅうぎいんぎいん）（10期目（きめ））です。
She is from Nara Prefecture and is now serving her 10th term as a member of the House of Representatives.

神戸大学（こうべだいがく）を卒業（そつぎょう）後（ご）、松下政経塾（まつしたせいけいじゅく）で勉強（べんきょう）しました。
After graduating from Kobe University, she studied at the Matsushita Institute of Government and Management.

アメリカで政治（せいじ）の仕事（しごと）もしました。
She also worked in politics in the United States.

1993年に初当選（はつとうせん）。
She was first elected in 1993.

最初（さいしょ）は無所属（むしょぞく）でしたが、1996年から自民党（じみんとう）です。
She started as an independent but joined the Liberal Democratic Party in 1996.

安倍晋三（あべしんぞう）元（もと）首相（しゅしょう）の親友（しんゆう）で、保守派（ほしゅは）（右寄（みぎよ）り）のリーダーです。
She was a close friend of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and is a leader of the conservative (right-wing) side of the party.

政策（せいさく）：憲法改正（けんぽうかいせい）、防衛力（ぼうえいりょく）アップ、原発（げんぱつ）再稼働（さいかどう）、経済成長（けいざいせいちょう）。
Her policies include revising the constitution, increasing defense power, restarting nuclear power plants, and boosting economic growth.

スパイ防止法（ぼうしほう）を作（つく）りたいと言（い）っています。
She wants to create a law to stop spying.

「日本（にっぽん）を守（まも）る！」がモットーです。
Her motto is “Protect Japan!”

2021年と2024年の自民党総裁選（じみんとうそうさいせん）で出馬（しゅつば）。
She ran in the party leader elections in 2021 and 2024.

2024年は1位（いちい）でしたが、決選（けっせん）で石破（いしば）さんに負（ま）けました。
She came in first in 2024 but lost to Ishiba in the final vote.

今（いま）、2025年の総裁選（そうさいせん）でまた狙（ねら）っています。
Now, she is aiming again at the 2025 party election.

Many people online say things like “Rebuild Japan with Prime Minister Takaichi!”

経済（けいざい）や防衛（ぼうえい）の専門家（せんもんか）。
She is an expert in economy and defense.

危機（きき）に強（つよ）いと言（い）われます。
People say she is strong in times of crisis.

4. ネガティブな話（Bad Points）

過去（かこ）に経歴（けいれき）の間違（まちが）いがありました。
She had some mistakes in her past career records.

アメリカの職（しょく）を「立法調査官（りっぽうちょうさかん）」と書（か）きましたが、正（ただ）しくは「フェロー」でした。
She wrote that her U.S. job title was “Legislative Researcher,” but the correct title was “Fellow.”

本（ほん）の記述（きじゅつ）も間違（まちが）え（最年少（さいねんしょう）女性（じょせい）議員（ぎいん）の話（はなし））で、批判（ひはん）されました。
She also made a mistake in her book, saying she was the youngest female lawmaker, which was not true, and she was criticized for it.

2015年、弟（おとうと）の秘書官（ひしょかん）が関（かか）わる「1億円融資疑惑（いちおくえんゆうしぎわく）」で週刊誌（しゅうかんし）が報（ほう）じましたが、後（のち）で謝罪記事（しゃざいきじ）が出（で）ました。
In 2015, a magazine reported a scandal involving her brother’s secretary and a 100 million yen loan, but the magazine later apologized.

でも、イメージが悪（わる）くなりました。
Still, it hurt her public image.

総務大臣時代（そうむだいじんじだい）、NHKの文書（ぶんしょ）を「捏造（ねつぞう）」と強（つよ）く言（い）って、橋下徹（はしもととおる）さんから「権限（けんげん）の認識（にんしき）がず（ず）れている」と批判（ひはん）されました。改革（かいかく）が不十分（ふじゅうぶん）だと言（い）われました。
While she was Minister for Internal Affairs, she strongly claimed that NHK had “faked” a document, and was criticized by Toru Hashimoto, who said she misunderstood her authority. Some say her reforms were not enough.

極右保守派（きょくうほしゅは）なので、左派（さは）や一部（いちぶ）メディアから「過激（かげき）すぎる」と嫌（きら）われます。
Because she is a far-right conservative, some left-wing groups and media think she is too extreme and dislike her.

党内（とうない）でも「麻生派（あそうは）が怖（こわ）い」と反対（はんたい）の声（こえ）があります。
Even inside the party, some say they fear the Aso faction and oppose her.

日本（にほん）の国（くに）のリーダーのことを、首相（しゅしょう）といいます。

The leader of Japan is called the Prime Minister.

正式（せいしき）な名前（なまえ）は、内閣総理大臣（ないかくそうりだいじん）です。

The official title in Japanese is "Naikaku Sōri Daijin," which means "Prime Minister."

ふだんは、首相（しゅしょう）という短（みじか）い言（い）い方（かた）がよく使（つか）われます。

But people usually just say “Shushou” (Prime Minister) because it’s shorter.

どちらも同（おな）じ人（ひと）のことです。

Both words mean the same person.

How the Prime Minister is Chosen

日本（にほん）には、国会（こっかい）という政治（せいじ）の場所（ばしょ）があります。

Japan has a place for politics called the National Diet (Kokkai).

国会（こっかい）には、選挙（せんきょ）で国民（こくみん）に選（えら）ばれた人（ひと）たちがいます。

In the Diet, there are people chosen by the people in elections.

この人（ひと）たちは、国会議員（こっかいぎいん）とよばれます。

These people are called Diet members or lawmakers.

国会議員（こっかいぎいん）には、衆議院（しゅうぎいん）と参議院（さんぎいん）の二つがあります。

There are two houses: the House of Representatives and the House of Councillors.

衆議院（しゅうぎいん）は465人で、参議院（さんぎいん）は248人です（2025年現在（げんざい））

The House of Representatives has 465 members, and the House of Councillors has 248 members (as of 2025).

首相（しゅしょう）を決（き）めるときは、まず衆議院（しゅうぎいん）と参議院（さんぎいん）がそれぞれ別々（べつべつ）に投票（とうひょう）をして、首相（しゅしょう）にふさわしい人（ひと）をえらびます。

When choosing the Prime Minister, both houses vote separately to decide who is best for the job.

この投票（とうひょう）のことを、内閣総理大臣指名選挙 （ないかくそうりだいじんしめいせんきょ）といいます。

This is called the “Naikakusouridaijin Shimei Senkyo” in Japanese, which means the election to choose the Prime Minister.

もし、衆議院（しゅうぎいん）と参議院（さんぎいん）で同（おな）じ人（ひと）をえらんだときは、その人（ひと）が首相（しゅしょう）になります。

If both houses choose the same person, that person becomes the Prime Minister.

しかし、ちがう人（ひと）をえらんだときは、衆議院（しゅうぎいん）でえらばれた人（ひと）が首相（しゅしょう）になります。

But if they choose different people, the one chosen by the House of Representatives becomes Prime Minister.

これを、衆議院（しゅうぎいん）の優越（ゆうえつ）といいます。

This rule is called the “superiority of the House of Representatives.”

衆議院（しゅうぎいん）でたくさんの議席（ぎせき）を持（も）っている政党（せいとう）を、与党（よとう）といいます。

The political party with the most seats in the House of Representatives is called the ruling party (Yotou).

政党（せいとう）のリーダーのことを、党首（とうしゅ）といいます。

The leader of a political party is called a "toushu" in Japanese.

ふつうは、与党（よとう）の党首（とうしゅ）が、首相（しゅしょう）にえらばれます。

Usually, the party head of the ruling party becomes the Prime Minister.

国会（こっかい）で首相（しゅしょう）がえらばれたあとは、日本（にほん）の象徴（しょうちょう）である天皇（てんのう）が、その人（ひと）を正式（せいしき）に任命（にんめい）します。

After the Prime Minister is chosen by the Diet, Japan’s symbol, the Emperor, formally appoints the person.

天皇（てんのう）は政治（せいじ）の力（ちから）を持（も）っていませんが、首相（しゅしょう）を決（き）まったとおりに任命（にんめい）することになっています。

The Emperor has no political power but must appoint the Prime Minister as decided by the Diet.

首相（しゅしょう）の任期（にんき）

The Prime Minister’s Term

衆議院（しゅうぎいん）の任期（にんき）は4年（よねん）です。でも、ふつうは途中（とちゅう）で解散（かいさん）されることが多（おお）いです。参議院（さんぎいん）の任期（にんき）は6年（ろくねん）です。3年（さんねん）ごとに半分（はんぶん）ずつ入れかわります。

Members of the House of Representatives serve for 4 years. But the house is often dissolved early, so they usually don’t serve the full 4 years. Members of the House of Councillors serve for 6 years. But every 3 years, half of the members are replaced in an election.

首相（しゅしょう）には、きまった年数（ねんすう）の任期（にんき）はありません。

The Prime Minister is the head of the ruling party.

If the party head becomes sick, steps down, or loses support, a new party head becomes the next Prime Minister.

まずは避難場所（ひなんばしょ）ににげます。
When there is a disaster like an earthquake or fire, you should first go to an evacuation area (避難場所).

避難場所（ひなんばしょ）は、公園（こうえん）や広場（ひろば）などの屋外（おくがい）の場所（ばしょ）が多（おお）いです。
An evacuation area(避難場所) is usually an outdoor place, like a park or open space.

建物（たてもの）がたおれても、あぶなくない場所（ばしょ）です。
It is a safe place, even if buildings fall down.

HARD OFF is a nationwide chain that buys and sells used items such as electronics, musical instruments, and computers. In Japan, it is often called a "recycle shop," but to be precise, it is a "reuse shop" because items are reused without being changed.

そのハードオフにSNSで大人気（だいにんき）の永田（ながた）さんという店員（てんいん）さんがいます。永田（ながた）さんはハードオフの店内（てんない）で様々（さまざま）な楽器（がっき）を自分（じぶん）で演奏（えんそう）して、歌（うた）も歌（うた）います。曲（きょく）は有名（ゆうめい）な曲（きょく）のカバーでキーは原曲（げんきょく）のままで歌（うた）います。

12 Years After a Big Failure in Smartphones

実(じつ)は、パナソニックは以前(いぜん)もスマートフォンを作(つく)っていました。
Actually, Panasonic used to make smartphones before.

しかし、世界中(せかいじゅう)のたくさんの会社(かいしゃ)との競争(きょうそう)に負(ま)けてしまい、2013年(ねん)にスマートフォンから撤退(てったい)しました。
However, they lost in competition with many companies worldwide and withdrew from the smartphone market in 2013.

大(おお)きなお金(かね)を失(うしな)い、とても悔(くや)しい経験(けいけん)だったでしょう。
They lost a lot of money, and it must have been a very frustrating experience.

もうパナソニックの携帯電話(けいたいでんわ)は出(で)ないだろうと、みんな思(おも)っていました。
Everyone thought that Panasonic would never release a mobile phone again.

In Europe, it was decided that old mobile phone network services would end in the near future.

This meant that many people would have to buy new phones.

    They began using simple and old-style flip phones, and this became a topic of interest. On TikTok, many videos were posted with the hashtag “#BringBackFlipPhones.”
    In 2023, one video with this tag was watched more than 24.6 million times.
